Thinking of volunteering over 2019 Christmas and New Year?
The Christmas and New Year period brings special challenges:
Physically, the cold and wet is a challenge for our visitors.
Mentally, the festivity period can be hard for those with few possessions, little money
and no family or support.
Getting to the Centre can be a challenge in harsh snowy weather.
It becomes harder for volunteers to staff the Centre with all the other commitments
they have.
So we need to think about this period early.
Our 2019 Christmas opening times for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Day will be from 16.00 to 20.00. Other days over the Christmas period will have normal opening hours. Volunteers work in teams of three and prepare a hot meal using the resources provided within the kitchen; the kitchen is then cleared in readiness for the next volunteer team.
Our Christmas meal for any visitors who wish to join us is usually held a week or two before Christmas, and not on Christmas Day itself.
If you have not volunteered before, the cut-off date for volunteering was Friday 15th November 2019, and we now not able to process any further applications, sorry.
Alternatively, why not think about applying to become a volunteer for a regular morning or evening session, or just to volunteer once in a while.
If you are one of our volunteers already please let Susan, our volunteer coordinator, know you are interested volunteering over the Christmas period: she will be pleased to hear from you at any time!
Thank you for all your support!
