We are keen to find new volunteers to support our service
Centre 33 only exists because of the generosity of so many in the St Albans area, whether in terms of time, donations of food, money etc or just practical support. Many of our visitors realise this and it is a source of comfort to know that they are not ignored or forgotten by so many in our community.
What does volunteering entail
Volunteers arrive an hour before the service starts. This gives them time to get things ready and prepare the food which is provided by the Centre. They then serve food and drinks. There is always the opportunity to chat with the visitors, who appreciate the warm welcome given to them. Afterwards there is the washing up and general cleaning to leave the Centre ready for the next session. Volunteers spend about two hours at the Centre altogether.
For the breakfast service at Spicer Street, we aim to have 3 volunteers on duty, one of which will be an experienced team leader.
For the dinner service at the Citadel, we aim to have 4 volunteers on duty. All new volunteers start working with two other experienced volunteers.
The Volunteer Coordinator arranges the weekly rota. Volunteers have complete flexibility to say when they would like to come to the Centre. Typically it might be a session once a week or a fortnight, but it can be anything that suits you. And as you get more experienced, there is an opportunity to become a team leader yourself.
All our volunteers benefit from training in relevant courses - for example health and safety and food hygiene.
We need volunteers to support our two dine-in services;
Morning service at Spicer Street
Monday to Friday
10am to 12.15pm
Evening service at The Citadel
Sunday to Thursday
